The official kick-off for Swedish Game Awards (SGA), Gamers’ Challenge, was an exciting event with many visitors, participants and people from the Swedish game industry.
The event started at 18.00 with team registrations for the 5on5 tournaments in Dawnspire: Prelude (winner of Best PC-Game 2006) where a number of teams gathered to compete against each other, and also the registrations for the 1on1 tournament in the game Sumo (winner of Best Game Concept 2006).
After some test-playing of the games, distributions of goodie-bags and a brief welcome and information speech from SGA’s Project Manager John-Philip Johansson, Gamers’ Challenge brought the gamers into the spotlight!
The Sumo tournament kicked off at 19.00, offering the visitors great 1on1 battle were the participants fell off one after another as Sava Dimitrijevic and Anna-Mia Jonsson finger-mangled their way to the finale. After an intense ‘best-of-five’ battle Sava received the champion title and prizes from Avalanche, Dice, Starbreeze and Zkillz as well as Yokai Studios; the creators of Sumo.
A while later, six guilds (teams) competed against each other in the Dawnspire: Prelude tournament where Team Toss and Blue Team struggled through the battlefields to meet in the finale. Team Toss were victorious in both rounds, receiving praise and prizes from the audience and SGA’s partners; Avalanche, Dice, Starbreeze and Zkillz. Congratulations to Team Toss; Mel, Lobster, Lillebror, Naru and Prince Shamud.
Congratulations to the three winners in the Ageia PhysX-cards lottery*:
- PuckPowl - Dawnspire team: Evil Loosers
- Joanna Mattsson - Dawnspire team: The Others
- Anna-Mia - Sumo wrestler
Maybe next year we'll be playing some physics based games in the tournament? So put those cards to good use and show us what you've got!
The organizers would like to thank all the attending visitors, participants and partners. A special thanks to Zkillz for letting us bring some gaming-chaos to them. We look forward to see you at forthcoming events!
* = The lottery was based on registered participants that played at least one full game. The winners were selected at random from that list, after the event, regardless if they registered an e-mail or not.
